Infants
Ages 6 weeks to 18 months. Our infant program follows
developmentally appropriate practice. Infants eat and sleep on their
own schedules. During their awake times, teachers support
development with tummy time, songs, reading and explorative play.
Toddlers
Ages 18 months to 2.5 years. Our toddler program is unique for our
small class sizes. Toddlers are in cohorts of six, with one lead teacher.
This intimate environment promotes calm, close relationships
between children and teachers. The toddler program follows more
structure, with two snacks, lunch and nap. There are small group
activities as well as Circle Time.
Prechoolers
Ages 2.5-6 years. Preschoolers at 1080 build on the group learning
environment from the toddler room, but with additional learning
appropriate to their age. We promote learning-through-play, and
foster pre-literacy and pre-numeracy during Center Time, small group
activities and Circle Time. Teachers also focus on social-emotional-
development -- we help children manage friendships, process their
feelings and work with others. These are life skills and important
kindergarten readiness skills. By the end of the preschool program
children have a solid foundation in writing, counting and numbers.
They also have the fine-motor skills needed to write and draw.
Graduates of 1080 are well prepared for kindergarten and develop a
love of learning along the way!
We are dedicated to creating a
learning environment in which a
child can experience the values
of acceptance, love, sharing and
caring.
We believe that parents, teachers and children
are partners in the learning process. Each child
is unique in his/her own interests, learning
styles, development rates and capabilities. Each
child is encouraged and supported to learn at
his or her own rate of ability.
An environment that is free from undue stress is
created for the learning process to be effective.
Discipline needs to be conducted in a manner
that encourages development of self-discipline.
The only discipline that is acceptable with young
children in our care is positive redirection. Our
curriculum is current and basic. We create an
atmosphere that celebrates the uniqueness of
others, free from racial and gender bias.
